Diseñador madrileño de 24 años. Compagina el desarrollo de su propia firma de moda, victornouman, con sus proyectos de arquitectura desde Atelier Teratoma, su proyecto paralelo.
24-year old designer from Madrid. He shares work on his own fashion brand, victornouman, with his architecture work at Atelier Teratoma, his side project. ->
Arquitectura: “Colaboro desde hace 2 años en el estudio de arquitectura Langarita-Navarro. Terminé Arquitectura en junio, y a principios de años cree, junto a Eugenio Fernández, el estudio Atelier Teratoma. Un proyecto que estamos enfocando como 2 plataformas que cooperan, una más enfocada a la investigación, y otra hacia el diseño y la arquitectura”.
Architecture: “For the past two years I’ve been working with the architecture studio Langarita-Navarro. I finished architecture in June, and at the beginning of this year, Eugenio Fernández and I created the Atelier Teratoma studio. It’s a project which we are making like two platforms that work together, one that’s more to do with research, and the other more about design and architecture”.
Moda: “Hice cursos de diseño y patronaje cuando vivía en Irlanda del Norte. Creo que es necesario controlar el medio para que los problemas técnicos no sean los que te impidan hacer lo que quieras. Por otro lado, me gusta mucho la cita de Anna Wintour cuando habla de sus breves estudios en una escuela de moda que pisó 2 veces: de moda se sabe o no se sabe”.
Fashion: “I did courses in design and patterns when I lived in Northern Ireland. I think you need to control the medium so that the technical problems don’t stop you from doing what you want to do. On the other hand, I really like the quote by Anna Wintour when she’s talking about her brief time in fashion school, which she stepped foot in twice: you either know fashion or you don’t”.
Elección: “No me gustaría tener que elegir entre moda y arquitectura. Las 2 parten de procesos creativos parecidos, pero su resultado final se desarrolla a diferentes escalas. Soy joven y tengo ganas de experimentar con las 2. En la moda soy capaz de controlar todos los detalles, mientras que en arquitectura hay un punto en el que se te escapan de las manos. Quizás en arquitectura es difícil que te tomen en serio hasta que no llegas a un rango de edad. En moda ser joven no es una desventaja, pero la competencia también es mayor”.
Choice: “I wouldn’t like to have to choose between fashion and architecture. Both come from similar creative processes, but the end result is done on different scales. I’m young and I want to experiment with both of them. In fashion I am able to control all the details, but in architecture there’s a point at which it all gets a bit out of hand. Perhaps in architecture it’s difficult for them to take you seriously until you reach a certain age. In fashion being young is not a bad thing, but there’s also more competition”.
Act II: “Es mi segunda colección, está inspirada en una secuencia de Munholland Drive de David Lynch, donde Rebekah del Río se desvanece en el escenario de un teatro prácticamente vacío. Ahora estoy asentando las bases para la comercialización de las prendas. La colección está formada por 9 piezas, que no miran tanto por el material, si no por las siluetas que crean: cuerpos alargados, abultados y distorsiones en general”.
Act II: “It’s my second collection, it’s inspired by a sequence from David Lynch’s Mulholland Drive, where Rebekah del Río is fainting onstage at a practically empty theatre. I’m laying down the bases for the commercialisation of the garments. The collection is made up of 9 pieces, in which the materials aren’t so important, but rather the silhouettes that they create: stretched-out bodies, swollen, generally distorted”
Unisex: “La moda masculina es muy conservadora, me gustaría llevarla a un punto más ambiguo, donde las prendas se vean sin género, más como objetos. Me gustaría enfocarme a un público donde las piezas sienten bien a ambos géneros, pero que en cada uno cuente una historia diferente”.
Unisex: “Men’s fashion is very conservative, I’d like to take it to more ambiguous grounds, where the garments can be seen free of gender, more like objects. I’d like to focus on a public where the pieces look equally as good on both sexes, but that in each one they tell a different story”.
Samsung Ego: “El mundo de la pasarela me interesa mucho, es un buen campo de trabajo donde moda y arquitectura pueden unirse. Me gustaría participar en Samsung Ego. En la pasarela los diseños cuentan, pero lo que te enamora es la forma de presentarlos. Y como arquitecto y diseñador creo que podría aportar un valor añadido a la pasarela”.
Samsung Ego: “The world of the runway really interests me, it’s a place where architecture and fashion can unite. On the runway the designs count, but what really makes you fall head over heels is the way of presenting them. And as an architect and designer I think that I could add something special to the catwalk”.
Ventas: “De momento las ventas son solo online, en la boutique online de mi web. El precio medio de las prendas son 150 euros”.
Sales: “For the time being the sales are only on the internet, at the online boutique on my website. The average price for a garment is 150 euros”.
