Un buen día, la pareja madrileña de fotógrafos Liabuarna me dice que se va a Los Ángeles a disparar a la increíble bailarina y modelo Larsen Thompson. Una niña de 15 años que arrasa en youtube con sus coreografias. Además de bailar, también canta. y ahora Next Models la acaba de fichar como modelo. Es muy probable que sea la nueva gran pelirroja de portadas y pasarelas, o incluso una versión con pecas de Beyoncé. Lo que quiera.
¿Qué tal ha ido la sesión de fotos con Liabuarna?
Me ha encantado. Disparamos en una de mis playas favoritas, la de Venice Beach en Southern California. Ha sido genial conocer personalmente a Liabuarna, he aprendido mucho de la cultura de su país, España. Tengo muchos seguidores españoles en Youtube e Instagram. Me encantaría trabajar próximamente en España.
Liabuarna es muy fan tuyo, pero supongo que tus padres son tus fans número 1. ¿Cuándo descubrieron que tenías un talento especial? Comencé a bailar con 3 años. Mis padres te podrían decir que ya desde entonces me encantaba entretener a la gente. Mi tía fue una gimnasta de élite, Julianne McNamara, creo que afortunadamente tengo alguno de sus genes. Ella participó en los Juegos Olímpicos del 84 y ganó un oro y 2 medallas de plata. Y probablemente sea la persona más humilde del mundo.
¿Tienes antecedentes familiares en el mundo del espectáculo? Solo mi tía. Después de las Olimpiadas mi tía hizo anuncios de publicidad, televisión, como comentarista e intérprete, y también películas.
¿Dónde has aprendido a bailar? Me encanta aprender, y procuro desarrollar mi arte yendo a clases de diferentes coreógrafos que me enseñan una variedad de estilos de baile. Me encanta la danza contemporánea y el hip-hop porque me permiten expresar mis sentimiento y emociones. También recibo clases de ballet para mantener y desarrollar mi técnica.

One fine day, the Madrilenian photographers Liabuarna tell me they are going to Los Angeles to photograph the incredible dancer and model Larsen Thompson. A fifteen-year old girl who has swept across Youtube with her choreography. As well as dancing, she also sings. Next Model have also just signed her up as a model. She is likely to be the next big redhead on the covers and catwalks, or even a freckled Beyoncé. Whatever she wants to be.
How was the photo shoot with Liabuarna? I loved it. We shot it in on one of my favourite beaches, Venice Beach in Southern California. It was really great to meet Liabuarna personally, I have learnt a lot about the culture of their country, Spain. I have a lot of Spanish followers on Youtube and Instagram. I would love to be able to work in Spain soon.
Liabuarna are great fans of yours, but I imagine that your number 1 fans are your parents. When did they discover that you had a special talent? I started dancing when I was three. My parents would tell you that even then I loved to entertain people. My aunt was an elite gymnast, Julianne McNamara; luckily I think I have some of her genes. She took part in the 1984 Olympics and took gold and two silver medals. She is also probably the most modest person in the world.
Do you have any other relations in the entertainment world? Just my aunt. After the Olympics, my aunt featured in some adverts; she was on television, both as a commentator and performer, and she was also in films.
Where did you learn to dance? I love learning and I try to develop my art by going to different types of choreography classes that teach me a range of different dance styles. I love contemporary dance and hip-hop because they allow me to express my feelings and emotions. I also take ballet classes to maintain and develop my technique.

¿Cuántas horas entrenas a la semana? Entre 15 y 20 horas semanales. La danza para mí es un deporte, y como en cualquier otro, el entrenamiento y la práctica continua es fundamental para el éxito.
No tendrás mucho tiempo libre. De momento, hago todo lo posible para equilibrar el instituto, los amigos y las audiciones durante toda la semana. Voy a una escuela pública de secundaria y llevo una vida muy normal. Me encanta salir con mis amigos y con mi familia, pero también me pierdo alguna cosa por las audiciones y los trabajos. Es un equilibrio continuo, pero mis amigos y mi familia me mantienen conectada a la tierra.
¿Qué estudias ahora mismo? Español, Geometría y Ciencia. Tengo que decir que Español es mi clase favorita, porque mi profesor es fantástico y me encanta aprender idiomas.
Supongo que ahora que eres tan famosa no tendrás que hacer tantos castings, ¿los comienzos fueron duros o fue un simple juego para ti? Las audiciones son divertidas, es un desafío, también estresante. Pero soy feliz cuando siento que he dado lo mejor de mí, consiga el trabajo o no. Creo que todo lo que me he esforzado ha merecido la pena para trabajar en la industria de la danza. Además mi formación en baile también me está ayudando a desarrollar mi carrera como intérprete y modelo.
Conocerás a muchas bailarinas de tu edad. Pero, ¿qué crees que te hace especial? Estoy bailando constantemente con gente más mayor y más joven que yo, y todos me motivan e inspiran. La danza es subjetiva, pero creo que el entrenamiento técnico que me he recibido de mis fantásticos maestros es lo que ha dado forma a lo que soy hoy en día: mucha técnica, más un movimiento corporal flexible, fluido, potente… y sudar emoción.

How many hours a week do you train? Between 15 and 20 hours per week. Dance is a sport to me and, like any other, continuous training and practise are fundamental to its success.
You probably don’t have much free time. At the moment I do everything possible to balance school, friends and auditions throughout the week. I go to a public high school and I lead a very normal life. I love going out with my friends and family, but I also miss out on some things because of auditions and jobs. It is a constant balance, but my friends and family keep me grounded.
What are you studying at the moment? Spanish, geometry and science. I have to say that Spanish is my favourite class because I have a great teacher and I love learning other languages.
I guess now you are so famous that you don’t have to go to many castings but at the start were they difficult for you, or more of a game? Auditions are fun, challenging and also stressful. However, I am happy when I feel like I have given it my best, no matter if I get the job or not. I think all the effort I have made has been worth it in order to work in the dance industry. What’s more, my dance training is helping me to develop my career as a singer and model.
You must know many dancers who are your age, what do you think it is that makes you stand out? I’m constantly dancing with people who are younger and older than me, who all motivate and inspire me. Dance is subjective, but I think the technical training that I have received from my fantastic teachers is what has made me into what I am today: Lots of technique, combined with flexible, fluid and powerful physical movement… and buckets of emotion.

¿Nacer y vivir en California es una ventaja para dedicarse al mundo del espectáculo? ¿O desde que tenemos Youtube ya da igual dónde estés? Para trabajar en la industria de la danza es importante vivir aquí, en el sur de California, ya que la mayoría de los trabajos se generan aquí. Youtube ha cambiado todo en términos de exposición y visibilidad. Me encanta. Pensar que gente todo el mundo puede verme hacer lo que más me gusta es simplemente impresionante. A mí me gusta responder a los comentarios de la gente, y espero que sea una buena influencia para que otros hagan lo que les gusta. Además, lo bueno es que la conexión a través de Youtube te ofrece muchas oportunidades de viajar y conocer gente de otros países, y eso me encanta.
Tienes 15 años, ¿estás segura que quieres dedicarte al mundo del espectáculo durante toda tu vida? Cuando era pequeña quería ser médico. Pero ahora mis opciones han cambiado ligeramente. Me apasiona el baile y la moda, así que todo lo que estoy haciendo ahora gira en torno a eso. Sigo trabajando en mi baile, la interpretación, el canto… El mundo de la canción también me tira, estoy trabajando mi voz. Y también trabajo de modelo. Me encanta todo. De hecho, últimamente he posado mucho como modelo, es muy divertido.
¿Quiénes son tus músicos favoritos? Taylor Swift, Beyonce, Justin Timberlake… son algunos de los que sigo e inspiran. Su música me motiva y hace que quiera bailar y cantar.
¿Y como actriz? ¿Te ves? Frecuentemente hago audiciones para películas y anuncios, me encantaría trabajar en una serie o una película. Ahora mismo estamos trabajando en un contrato para un reality, la idea es comenzar a grabar en enero, así que crucemos los dedos.

Is being born and raised in California an advantage when you want to be part of the entertainment world? Or, now that we have Youtube, does it no longer matter where you are? To work in the dance industry it’s important to live here, in Southern California, as most jobs are based here. Youtube is a game changer in terms of exhibition and visibility. I love it. To think that people all over the world can see me do what I love most in the world is incredible. I like to respond to people’s comments and I hope that it is a positive influence for others to do what they love doing. What’s more, the good thing is that connection via Youtube gives you a lot of opportunities to travel and meet people from other countries, which I love.
You are fifteen, are you sure that you want to dedicate yourself to the world of entertainment for the rest of your life? When I was smaller, I wanted to be a doctor. But now, my options have changed slightly. I am passionate about dance and fashion, so everything that I am doing now revolves around that. I continue working on dancing, acting, singing… the music world also really appeals to me, I’m training my voice, and I also work as a model. I love it all. In fact, recently I have done a lot of modelling work; it is really fun.
Who are your favourite musicians? Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, Justin Timberlake… are some of the musicians that I follow and who inspire me. Music motivates me and makes me want to sing and dance.
And you also see yourself as an actress? I often do auditions for films and adverts, and I would love to work on a series or a film. Right now we are working on a contract for a reality show; the idea is to start filming in January, so we’re keeping our fingers crossed.

Tú y Taylor Hatala sois Fraternal Twins. Os habéis hecho muy famosas en Youtube con versiones de Nicki Minaj, Beyonce, Big Sean, kanye West…¿Sabéis qué opinan ellos de vuestros vídeos? La gente nos ha dicho que Beyonce y Nicki nos han puesto por las nubes. Pero no conozco a ninguno de ellas personalmente. Taylor tuvo ocasión de conocer a Beyonce y su hija en el show de Los Angeles de Janet Jackson. La odio, estoy celosa :)
Todo el mundo se pregunta cuál será la siguiente versión. Nuestra cuarto vídeo sale a mediados de diciembre. Se presentará en una nueva plataforma social en la que nos estrenamos. ¿Y cómo surgió lo de Fraternal Twins? Taylor y yo nos conocimos en North Hollywood, bailando para un concept video con WilldaBeast Adams y el grupo de baile ImmaBeast. Nos lo pasamos tan bien bailando juntas que decidimos actuar juntas en The Pulse -una convención de baile en Las Vegas-. Y a partir de ahí comenzamos a trabajas juntas con la fantástica Janelle Ginestra -coreógrafa, directora y visionaria-. A ella se le ocurrió lo de Fraternal Twins y el resto es historia. Las 2 compartimos un estilo de baile muy similar. Y las 2 trabajamos duro y le damos fuerte, estamos muy sincronizadas cuando bailamos juntas. A pesar de la diferencia de edad -Taylor tiene 9- ella es una verdadera amiga, somos casi como hermanas, nos encanta estar juntas.
Aparte de Fraternal Twins tienes otros proyectos como The Suga N Spice. Me siento muy afortunada de haber conocido a Taylor y a Janelle, juntas continuamos trabajando en nuevos proyectos. Me encanta trabajar en Suga N Spice, un grupo creado por mi maestro Brian Friedman. Muchas de mis amigas están en el equipo, así que lo pasamos fenomenal cuando quedamos para crear conceptos de baile. También trabajo yo sola, ahora estoy trabajando en distintos proyectos que asocian la moda y el baile a través de las redes sociales, la publicidad… colaborando con otros artistas y marcas como David Yerman, HP, Stance o Diamond Supply.

You and Taylor Hatala are known as Fraternal Twins. You have made yourselves very famous on Youtube with versions of Nicki Minaj, Beyoncé, Big Sean, Kanye West… do you know what they think of your videos? People have told us that Beyoncé and Nicki have spoken highly of us. However, I don’t know any of them personally. Taylor had the chance to meet Beyoncé and her daughter at Janet Jackson’s show in Los Angeles. I hate her, I’m so jealous! :)

How did Fraternal Twins come about? Taylor and I met in North Hollywood, dancing for a concept video with WilldaBeast Adams and the dance group ImmaBeast. We had such a great time dancing together that we decided to perform together at The Pulse, a dance convention held in Las Vegas. From then on, we started to work together with the fantastic Janelle Ginestra, choreographer, director and visionary. She came up with Fraternal Twins and the rest is history. The two of us share a very similar dance style. The two of us work very hard and give it hard, we are very much in sync when we dance together. Despite our age difference, Taylor is nine, she is a real friend, we are almost sisters; we love being together.
Apart from Fraternal Twins you have other projects, such as Suga N Spice. I feel very fortunate to have met Taylor and Janelle, we continuously work together on new projects. I love working with Suga N Spice, a group created by my teacher Brian Friedman. Many of my friends are in the team, so we always have a great time when we meet to create dance concepts. I also work alone. At the moment I am working on different projects that combine fashion and dance through social networks, advertising… collaborating with other artists and brands, such as David Yerman, HP, Stance and Diamond Supply.

¿Quién guía tu carrera? Mis padres son una gran influencia. Confío mucho en ellos y sé que quieren lo mejor para mí. Pero recientemente he firmado con Next Model Management para que me representen a nivel internacional como modelo y en la gestión de las redes sociales.
¿Qué prefieres: hacer publicidad convencional o generar contenidos para las marcas? He trabajado en campañas nacionales para compañías como Microsoft, Target, Coca Cola. Panera, Walmart, Nissan… Cada proyecto es único y una experiencia de aprendizaje. Pero la publicidad digital es más excitante para mí porque me permite crear mi propio contenido mientras colaboro con marcas.
Al menos tienes 2 páginas oficiales, ¿cómo te las arreglas con tanto trabajo online? LarsenThompsonFashion.com es un blog en el que me encanta escribir sobre moda, modelos… LarsenThompson.com es mi primer site, es donde comparto mis trabajos de baile, moda e interpretación. La verdad es que dedico mucho tiempo a subir contenidos a Youtube, Snapchat, Instagram y Facebook. Tengo un Social Media Manager que me ayuda mucho respondiendo a las marcas y creando nuevas y excitantes oportunidades.
¿Y cuáles son tus siguientes pasos como modelo? Firmé en verano con Next Models, y estuve en la última edición de la New York Fashion Week, fue fantástico. La verdad es que si me dan la oportunidad me veo desfilando en las pasarelas de París, Milán, Londres, Nueva York… Mis referentes sobre la pasarela serían Kate Moss y Rachel Hunter.
Como fashionista influyente, ¿cuáles son las marcas que normalmente usas? Me encanta llevar ropa cómoda, desde Adidas a LF, WildFox o Brandy Melville. Pero también me gustan marcas como Chanel o Stella McCartney.
Eres Escorpio, ¿mucho o poco? Soy muy apasionada y obsesiva en ciertas cosas, y leal. No creo que sea excesivamente manipuladora o celosa por naturaleza.

Who directs your career? My parents are a big influence. I really trust them and I know they want the best for me. However, recently I signed with Next Model Management, who now represent me at an international level as a model and in terms of social network management.
What do you prefer, to work on conventional advertising or to generate content for brands? I have worked on national campaigns for companies such as Microsoft, Target and Coca Cola, Panera, Walmart, Nissan… Each project is unique, as well as being a learning experience. However, I find digital advertising the most exciting at the moment because it enables me to create my own content at the same time as collaborating with brands.
You have at least two official pages, how do you manage with so much online work? LarsenThompsonFashion.com is a blog, where I love to write about fashion, models… LarsenThompson.com is my main website, where I share my dance, fashion and acting projects. The truth is that I dedicate a lot of time to uploading content onto Youtube, Snapchat, Instagram and Facebook. I have a social media manager who helps me a lot in responding to brands and creating new and exciting opportunities.
What are your next steps as a model? This summer I signed with Next Model and I took part in the last New York Fashion Week, which was fantastic. If they give me the chance, I could see myself walking the catwalks in Paris, Milan, London, New York. Kate Moss and Rachel Hunter would be my catwalk inspirations.
As an influential fashionista, which are the labels that you find yourself wearing the most? I love wearing comfy clothes, from labels like Adidas, LF, WildFox and Brandy Melville. I also love labels such as Chanel and Stella McCartney.
Are you a much of a Scorpio, or not really? I’m very passionate and obsessive about certain things, and loyal. I don’t think that I’m excessively manipulative or jealous by nature.
