El artista Pepo Salazar fue nuestro Guest Creative en el número de mayo-junio. Le entrevistamos y fotografiamos en su estudio de París
París es la ciudad en la que Pepo reside desde hace casi dos años y con la que mantiene un idilio total. E incluso el París más turístico, el de la Tour Eiffel, le fascina, pero también el lado más desconocido de la capital francesa, la Banlieue, que le inspira y estimula a todos los niveles. Es pues, desde su estudio en Arcueil, más allá del «Périph», desde el que responde vía Skype a Neo2. Poco antes de que viaje a Madrid para montar su pieza en la exposición colectiva «Punk» en el CA2M, y evitando encender la cámara de su ordenador por miedo a que la máquina pete y le deje tirado con todo el material preparado para Venecia.
Formación: “A los 8 años mis padres me apuntaron a clases de dibujo y música -en esta ultima duré dos días- y ya tenía súper claro que quería ser Moebius y pintor. Hice la escuela de artes y “orificios” pero mi historial académico es espectacular: a mí me han echado de 5 colegios, uno de ellos la propia escuela de artes, claro. Entonces hice una especie de máster en diseño gráfico, que era público, en el Centro de Diseño de Vitoria. Vimos cosas de marketing, psico-marketing… cosas espectaculares para los 90. Y de ahí volví a la escuela de artes y la acabé. Pero vamos, como quien no quiere la cosa; ya estaba trabajando.”

The artist Pepo Salazar is the Guest Creative of Neo2 May-June issue. We interviewed and photographed him in his Paris studio.
Paris is the place Pepo has been living in for nearly two years and which he still completely idolises. And even the most touristy side, that of the Eiffel Tower, fascinates him, but also the lesser known parts of the French capital, such as la Banlieue, which both inspires and motivates him on all levels. There, from his studio in Arcueil, outside of the “Périph”, is where he talks to Neo2 over Skype. It’s just before he’s going to travel to Madrid to put his piece together for “Punk” at the CA2M, and he says he can’t turn the camera on for fear of his computer having a fit and him losing all the material he’s prepared for Venice.
Training: “When I was 8 my parents signed me up to drawing and music classes -the latter of which I only lasted 2 days at- and I already knew full well that I wanted to be Moebius and a painter. I did arts and crafts school, but my academic history is spectacular: they kicked me out of five schools, one of which was the art school, of course. So I did a kind of masters in graphic design, which was public, at the Vitoria Centro de Diseño. We looked at stuff like marketing, psycho-marketing… some amazing things for the Nineties. From there I went back to art school and I finished. But anyway, it didn’t matter, I was already working”.
