Interview with Isometric
Joan Ros Garrofé and Jessica Montes Nice. Both 23 years old. They met while working at Martin Lamothe. In 2014 they create their own brand. In 2015 they win the 080 Barcelona Fashion Award for Emergent Design.

Isometric: “The truth is that the brand was pretty much a haphazard thing. We both knew that we wanted to do a project together, so we decided to do a collection. We wanted to do it just so we’d have a portfolio and to have a good time”.

Name: “In technical drawing, isometric projection is the two-dimensional graphical representation of a three-dimensional object. In chemistry, isometrics is a property of all compounds that have the same molecular formula, but with different chemical structures. Thus, the word ‘Isometric’ has not only scientific connotations, but is also about two elements that interrelate.”

Interview with Isometric080: “The 080 Barcelona Fashion Award for Emergent Design was, above all, a boost on an emotional level. We completely understand that we are very young and that we don’t have the experience nor the resources to launch a quality brand into the market. The award gave us confidence in our work and the desire to do things.”

Studies: (Jessica) “I’m very happy with IDEP. It’s a school that helps you project yourself in the future. It opens a lot of doors for you”; (Joan) “I could tell you all about how amazing the teachers and professionals are at Bau… but more than anything, it’s my home in Barcelona. We always say that Bau is a family.”

Interview with IsometricMartin Lamothe: (Joan) “I started working at Martin Lamothe when I was 18 as a graphic designer and right hand for 2 and a half years. Jessica arrived six months later. Both of us learned about commitment to work there. Elena, the creative director at Martin Lamothe, blindly trusted us both. She’s like a big sister to us – always there giving advice so that we can improve”.

Interview with IsometricProduction: “Catalunya has a strong textile tradition and there are quite a few workshops. Many local workshops are overwhelmed because they’re trying to compete with prices from other countries, and it’s madness. It seems to us that the national workshops shouldn’t have to lower their products’ prices to be competitive. The consumer should understand in what circumstances people have to work in order for others to get the product at that price. We all have to charge what we deserve for the service that we offer. We don’t say that you have to pay more for no reason, but the local production is taken advantage of too often.”

Interview with IsometricGenders: “The garments of our collections are patterned to be suitable for both women and men. On the runway, we use male models because when it comes to sales, it’s easier for a woman to wear clothes that are apparently for men than the other way around.”
